European Masters outright prediction – Thriston Lawrence at 16/1
After solid performances in the autumn, which is not uncommon for South African players in their local events, Lawrence has hit another purple patch. He was second at the European Open in June and then finished an eye-catching fourth at The Open at Royal Troon. He then won a three-round Sunshine tour event in his homeland by five shots and finished second behind Niklas Norgaard at last week’s British Masters. He was ninth at the European Open before finishing third in a quality field at the Scottish Open, which should have pushed him on to a big finish at the Open, but he was forced to withdraw at Troon due to a back injury. However, his second at the Danish Championship behind fellow countryman Frederic Lacroix displayed no ill-effects and he can improve on his best Crans-sur-Sierre finish of seventh in 2016.
